Nestled on the outskirts of Knowle, a village in Solihull, Watery Lane Farm grows predominantly wheat, as well as spring barley, spring oats, and both forage and grain maize.

In addition, the business runs a herd of suckler cattle and carries out contract spraying for neighbouring farms. Rupert Inkpen runs the farm; we sat down with him to discuss his thoughts on Bateman…

Set in the Vale of Pewsey, DL Lemon Wilton Limited look after 3,000 acres of land which is owned, rented and contract farmed. The business grows wheat, spring barley, winter barley, oilseed rape, maize and grass.

We sat down with Managing Director David Lemon and Lead Operator Darren Palin to talk about their relationship with Bateman, in particular how they have developed their Bateman sprayer to carry out multiple duties…

Location: Nottinghamshire | Sprayer: RB25

Jon Wheeler is Working Farm Manager for Osberton Grange Farm, an arable and horticultural business situated in Nottinghamshire.

The business runs a 2004 plate RB25, which was a new machine when it was purchased. In all that time, the sprayer has continued to run true, with regular servicing from Bateman keeping everything in excellent working condition…

Location: Gloucestershire | Sprayer: RB35

Iain Robertson is Sprayer Operator for a mixed farm in South Gloucestershire. Covering approximately 4,000 acres (1,618 hectares) as a total, the business grows combinable crops – wheat, barley, peas, beans, maize, and also grass for animals.

The 2016 plate RB35 is fitted with PinPoint PWM and Bateman Boom Levelling, saving the business in the region of 10% on input costs overall.

Jonathan Crosse

Location: Hertfordshire | Sprayer: RB35

Jonathan Crosse is sprayer operator for Lower Heath Farming, a North Hertfordshire farm based midway between Baldock and Royston. The business produces wheat, winter barley, spring barley, peas and beans. Additionally, they also contract farm for three other local farms.

Fitted with Accurate, Bateman Boom Levelling and E-Drive, this is the fourth Bateman owned by the business.

Location: Worcestershire | Sprayer: RB35

Stuart Whitehouse of GS Whitehouse & Sons farms on the border of South Birmingham, and Worcestershire. A mixed farm, 800 acres being arable, 250 acres of grassland and 150 head of Beef Cattle. Cropping rape, wheat, barley, oats, beans, plus occasional contracting.

Fitted with Bateman Boom Levelling and our LED Lighting Pack, this is the second Bateman in succession run by the farm.

Turney’s Ltd

Location: Northants | Sprayer: RB55

Turney’s Limited are an arable and contracting business farming 1100 hectares of combinable crops – winter wheat, oilseed rape, winter beans, spring oats plus wild bird seed to various Countryside Stewardship and SFI features.

Turney’s run a Bateman RB55 with 5,600 litres and a 36-metre boom. The machine is also fitted with Pinpoint III PWM, BBL, E-Drive and Tankmatic filling.

David Goulbourne

Location: Worcestershire | Sprayer: RB35

David has been running Bateman sprayers on his farm since 1990, and this is his fifth machine. The 2012 plate RB35 has been retrofitted with Bateman Boom Levelling, transforming control of the sprayer.

David enjoys the simplicity of the engineering on his sprayer, along with the aftercare, which gives him a unique sense of belonging to a big family.

Location: Warwickshire | Sprayer: RB35

Michael Reed of P Reed & Son runs three farms, ten miles apart, across South Warwickshire. Five generations of the family have farmed in the area, the business is predominantly arable.

The main crop grown is wheat, both milling and feed. Other crops include oilseed rape, winter beans, spring beans, spring oats, spring barley, peas and occasionally winter barley.

Sam Kay is a partner at Wharram & Kay, an arable farm based in Yorkshire covering 700 hectares of cereals and oil seeds. The business has run Bateman Sprayers for over a decade.

Wharram & Kay chose Bateman because, like them, we’re a family-run business. They also appreciate the effort that went into our development of a machine that works specifically for their location.

Location: Warwickshire | Sprayer: RB35

David Jones is a partner in JH & M M Jones, based just outside Stratford upon Avon. The business grows 1100 hectares of combinable crops – wheat, oilseed rape, winter barley and spring beans.

The sprayer is fitted with a 32 meter boom, Bateman Boom Levelling, Capstan PinPoint III PWM and E-Drive transmission, alongside oversize, taller tyres.

Bob Shelswell

Location: Warwickshire | Sprayer: RB25

Bob Shelswell runs his RB25 for spraying duties on his farm and other farms which he supports as a contractor, covering in the region of 9,000 acres all told.

Bob values our aftercare, which he considers to be second to none – he knows he can speak to someone who knows all about his machine, despite the fact that it’s over 20 years old.

Location: Warwickshire | Sprayer: RB15 & RB35

Stuart Burman is part of a family farming partnership comprising two farms 6 miles apart, covering around 650 acres in total, and farming approx 500 acres of arable crops – wheat, barley, oilseed rape, beans and linseed.

The business runs 2 Batemans – an RB15 with a 24mtr Contour Boom and 2,500ltr tank, and an RB35 with a 24mtr VG Boom and 4000ltr tank.

Location: Skillymarno | Sprayer: RB35

Alan, along with brother David and nephew Scott, are arable farmers. Whilst we joined Alan in the cab of his treasured combine, he gave give us his thoughts on farming, his recent competition victory and his beloved Bateman sprayer.

They grow our own crops and have 3 different contract farming partnerships, and contract spray for several other customers.

As a high grade seed potato grower, Keith may not becovering vast amounts of hectares. However, it is crucial to have a machine that won’t let him down as he aims to spray the potatoes every 5-7 days – and these are long days.

Keith continues to be impressed by the reliability of the machine, and the backup service and approachability of Bateman.
