Pinpoint III PWM
Smarter spraying for modern farming
Developed with our partner Capstan AG™, Pinpoint III is the most advanced pulse width modulation (PWM) system on the market. By managing flow and pressure independently, PWM ensures your sprayer applies the right rate, in the right area, every time.
What is Pulse Width Modulation (PWM)?
Put simply, PWM is like an automatic tip changer designed to give you the optimal droplet size regardless of speed. PWM acts in the same way as a fuel injector – manifold pressure is constantly maintained at a set point; flow is infinitely variable within the limits of the nozzle size.
Key Benefits- Individual nozzle control: up to 224 nozzles managed independently for unrivalled accuracy
- Turn compensation: automatic adjustment ensures consistent application around headlands and corners
- Pressure independence: flow and pressure are decoupled, so droplet size stays uniform regardless of speed
- Rate control built-in: unlike previous systems, Pinpoint III is a full ISOBUS rate controller, removing the need for an additional unit
- Predictive control: algorithms anticipate boom movement and adjust output before errors occur
- Nozzle diagnostics: communicates potential faults with nozzles
- Intelligent valves: cycling on/off up to 19 times per second delivers exceptional control at the nozzle level
- Data driven: every nozzle can be tracked, logged, and reported. This provides a complete picture of application accuracy
What this means for growers- Chemical usage cut by up to 10% (greater reduction for liquid fertiliser)
- Under and over application is reduced
- Consistently repeatable applications between multiple operators
- Reduced drift provides additional spraying windows
- Environmental impact is greatly reduced to meet regularity standards

How Pulse Width Modulation improves application rates
- Each nozzle is fitted with a fast-acting solenoid valve and plunger
- The valves open and close up to 19 times per second (20 Hz)
- The plunger produces the pulsing motion which controls the duty cycle range
- The duty cycle (the percentage of time a nozzle is open) controls the flow rate, independently of spray pressure
Using Pinpoint III PWM means sprayer operators can:
- Maintain a consistent and precise droplet size across variable speeds
- Achieve varied rate control with fewer nozzle changes
Improve coverage, reduce drift, and save on chemical use
Why choose Pinpoint III PWM for your Bateman sprayer?
Capstan AG™ are the pioneers of PWM. Since 2018, Bateman machines have been designed to run Capstan’s PWM technology, we were the first to fit PWM in the UK.
Pinpoint III PWM is integrated into the ISO control screen, making it very easy to operate. Operators can lock on target rate and pressure even under the most challenging field conditions. By manipulating droplet size to reduce drift, additional spraying windows are made possible.
During on-farm demonstrations over 90% of operators choose Pinpoint III once they have tried it.
Pinpoint III PWM FAQs
What’s the difference between Pinpoint II and Pinpoint III?Pinpoint III is a complete redesign. Unlike Pinpoint II, which required a separate rate controller, Pinpoint III functions as a full ISOBUS rate controller. It also features more advanced diagnostics, predictive control, and easier updates via smartphone devices.
Can you upgrade from Pinpoint II to Pinpoint III?Yes. You can introduce the new features of Pinpoint III to existing installations.
Can Pinpoint III reduce chemical costs?Yes. By applying the right rate at the right place, Pinpoint III reduces overlaps and avoids over-application. Independent studies suggest chemical savings of up to 10% per season, depending on field shape and operating conditions.
Does PWM spraying affect droplet size?It doesn’t. One of the main advantages of PWM is that droplet size remains stable because spray pressure is constant. Rate changes are managed electronically through duty cycle modulation.
Is Pinpoint III difficult to use?Not at all. Operators control the system through their main in-cab ISOBUS terminal. Diagnostics and setup are simplified, Bateman provides full training and support.
How reliable are the solenoid valves? The ENVELOP valves in Pinpoint III are designed for agricultural conditions. They are robust, fast, and tested to withstand thousands of hours of operation without failure (Capstan AG, 2023).
Can Pinpoint III be retrofitted to older sprayers? In many cases, yes — but it depends on boom type and existing electronics. Speak to Bateman to check compatibility with your machine.
Feedback from Bateman Pinpoint III PWM users
“We encounter a lot of obstacles such as electric poles and such like, Pinpoint III allows us to spray up to and around them, without compromising pressure.
On the steep hills there can be a variation in forward speed but PWM gives you a greater range of nozzle sizes so does not affect our performance or efficiency.”
Danny Sole, Marden Contracting, West Sussex
“We have bought accuracy. We now achieve accurate application all the time, which is impressive, it makes our decision easy to justify.
When conditions aren’t quite right, we can adjust the droplet size and work in the fields, previously we wouldn’t have been able to do this. Another plus is that it’s very easy to use.”
Michael Reed, P Reed & Son, Warwickshire
“PWM is a game-changer for us. During our first spring using PWM we recorded 10 extra spraying days.
We’re saving chemical by not overlapping, our accuracy is improved as is the repeatability of application, irrespective of who’s driving the sprayer. It’s fantastic.”
David Jones, JH & MM Jones, Warwickshire
