Our History

Like many good stories, our’s began with a challenge. In 1976, Richard Bateman wasn’t setting out to launch a company, he simply needed a sprayer that could cope with the heavy, wet clay soils on his North Devon farm. Rather than wait for someone else to build it, Richard engineered the solution himself.

The result was the Agilator: a low-ground pressure machine designed to glide over difficult land without damaging crops. It worked so well that neighbouring farmers soon wanted one too and R.J. Bateman Engineering was born. Innovation came quickly.

The fully hydrostatic Hi-Lo paved the way for the RB range, which remains synonymous with reliability and control.

What makes a Bateman unique is how it feels to operate. Smooth, balanced and instantly responsive, every machine is the result of decades of refinement and an unwavering commitment to reliability.

We still believe in keeping things personal, knowing our customers by name and listening closely to their ideas. Many of our best innovations begin with a conversation in a field.
